The Professor of Practice in Emergency and Security Studies is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, both online and in person, in emergency management and related fields, and to fulfill university service responsibilities, such as serving on committees. The Emergency and Security Studies program offers an undergraduate degree in Homeland Security, separate master’s degrees in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and various online graduate certificates in specific concentrations.
The successful candidate will be qualified to teach in the areas of Emergency Management (critical infrastructure, emergency planning, disaster communications, business continuity, risk management, threat assessments, and other related courses).
The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of the Emergency and Security Studies program in curriculum development and oversight of the Emergency & Security Studies program.
Qualifications RequiredEducation and Experience
- Master's degree (doctorate preferred) in emergency management, homeland security, or a related field
- Proven knowledge and experience in emergency management best practices
- Teaching experience and classroom management in post-secondary institutions
- Online teaching experience or experience with online learning
- Online and on-campus curriculum development
- Minimum of 5 years of occupational experience in emergency management
- Applicant has formally presented on emergency management or related topics at commercial, industry, or government trade shows or conferences
- Experience in developing community partnerships and constructing and delivering outreach in communities
- Experience and applied knowledge in managing programs across all phases of emergency managemen
- Ability to develop and deliver creative, innovative and rigorous higher education programs
- Ability to develop and maintain industry relationships that lead to internship and job opportunities for students and graduates
- Ability to provide quality academic advisement to working adult students.
- Ability to work well with individuals of various ages and background
- Doctorate in emergency management, homeland security, or related field
- Possesses, or will obtain within two years of hiring, the International Association of Emergency Managers Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) certification
- Applicant is considered a Subject Matter Expert in emergency management
- Applicant has been published in a periodical on an emergency management or homeland security topic
- Experience with learning management systems, with a preference for Canvas
- Experience managing an online degree program
- Experience managing academic programs
- Experience working in or coordinating the public and private sectors
