As a school-based college counselor, Bard Early College New Orleans liaison, and AP Seminar teacher, you will play a pivotal role in both the process of students choosing their pathway for their junior and senior years, and in helping students to find their postsecondary opportunity that aligns with their pathway choice. You will also serve as a “champion” and advocate for the Honors trajectory at your school.

Seminar Teacher:

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Teach 2 sections of AP Seminar to 10th graders
  • Manage AP Seminar teams and Digital Portfolio
  • Execute You Science program and 12 lessons of CKCS (Career Knowledge, College Success) curriculum
  • In fall of students’ 9th grade years, present to ALL English classes on AP Seminar
  • In February‑May of students’ 9th grade years, run the interview process for seats in AP Seminar for 10th grade
  • Facilitate current AP Seminar students to interview prospective incoming students for AP Seminar
  • In the 2nd semester of AP Seminar, recruit high‑performing current students to serve as “big siblings” for future AP Seminar students
Bard Early College New Orleans Liaison:

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Push in/message out to ALL 10th grade students on BECNO program (1st semester)
  • Aid interested students in the application process to Bard Early College New Orleans (2nd semester, 10th grade year, in AP Seminar class)
  • Attend weekly, 30‑minute meetings with Bard Early College New Orleans Dean of Students
  • Work with school‑based Dean of Academic Guidance and Bard Early College New Orleans/KIPP Coordinator to ensure all BECNO students are aligned with an on‑time high school graduation with their dual‑enrollment credits
  • Work with school‑based Dean of Academic Guidance to ensure all BECNO students have the high school‑based credits necessary in their junior and senior years
College Counselor:

Roles and Responsibilities
  • (maximum caseload: 40 students per junior and senior grades; 80 students total)
  • Manage 9‑12 Honors Trajectory
  • Manage high‑yield 9th Grade Partnerships
  • Push into 9th grade classrooms to advertise College Track (September)
  • Facilitate application and interview process for College Track with collaboration from College Track
  • Goal: at least one student applies each year
  • Push into 9th grade classrooms to advertise HS2 (October)
  • Facilitate application and interview progress for HS2
  • Goal: at least one student applies each year
  • Manage Honors Graduation requirements
  • With Dean of Academic Guidance, manage students’ IGPs for graduation with Honors from a KIPP New Orleans high school
  • Lead Early Decision and Early Action cohort
  • Identify 10‑30 Early Decision/Early Action students by 2nd semester of students’ junior years based on student interest and GPA/ACT profile
  • Message out scholarship and programmatic opportunities to Early Decision/Early Action cohort
  • With assistance from the Match Manager and the Director of College, Career, and Persistence, facilitate outside partnerships and scholarship application process:
  • Goal: at least one student applies each year
  • Manage LEDA process (11th grade)
  • Goal: at least one student applies…
