Lower School - French Teacher

Isidore Newman School seeks a talented, dynamic, French language Lower School Teacher for the  academic year. The successful applicant will possess excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate strong instructional and classroom management skills; be technologically savvy and computer literate; have an abiding interest in helping students to experience academic and social growth; be successful in working with teams; possess strong understanding of the developmental level of the students they teach;

and genuinely love to work with students at the Lower School level.

• A bachelor's degree or higher in French or a closely related field; graduate work in the discipline desired.
• Qualified applicants are fluent French speakers and writers.
• Expertise in teaching beginner to advanced levels of French through a communicative approach based on target-language use.
• Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the primary level.
• Practical knowledge of how to work with a wide range of learners in elementary grades.
• A reflective practitioner committed to a continuous process of self‑improvement and lifelong learning.
• A positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills.
• Must meet and maintain any and all federal, state and local requirements to work in an educational setting.

• Enthusiasm for teaching early childhood and elementary‑aged children in a collaborative environment.
• Plan and execute lessons that meet the differentiated needs of our students including whole group, small group, and individual instruction, and fulfill the skills and content of the Lower School.
• Facilitate the educational and social development of the students.
• Create an environment of respect and rapport that is safe and conducive to learning and ensure students adhere to Lower School behavioral expectations.
• Contribute positively with colleagues around teaching and learning and have a growth mindset.
• Assess the students in a variety of ways, both formal and informal, and use assessment to guide instruction for student growth, development, and learning. Complete report cards.
• Communicate openly and effectively with parents including but not limited to Parents Nights, Parent Teacher Conferences, and Curriculum Conversations.
• Participate in field trips, special traditions, and activities of the Lower School.
• Complete Lower School duties and responsibilities as assigned.
