Overview

Brackish Experts is seeking Adjunct Professors to teach the Leadership in the Joint Maritime Operations (JMO) course for the Naval War College’s College of Distance Education Fleet Seminar Program (FSP) in New Orleans, LA. FSP is a seminar-based curriculum taught in-person to students at Naval bases and stations and consists of one 3-hour class per week during the academic year (September through May).

Description

The JMO course prepares Naval War College students for the operational arena by emphasizing operational planning and joint force application to achieve military objectives. It examines joint operations from the standpoint of the Combatant Commander and Joint Task Force Commander with a particular emphasis on maritime operations. It further develops joint attitudes and perspectives and increases understanding of service cultures.

Adjunct Faculty Qualifications

Required qualifications include an advanced degree in one or more of the following areas:
National Security, Strategic Studies, International Affairs, International Relations, or a related field; graduation from a U.S. military senior- or intermediate-level Service College with JMPE-1 and/or JPME-II certification; relevant and proven experience in joint or maritime operational level warfare and US Navy roles and missions; demonstrated experience working in the national security and defense environments; a U.S. citizen and capable of obtaining and maintaining a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.

Preferred qualifications include: an earned Ph.D. in one of the academic fields noted above; military Service College teaching experience;
Joint Service Officer (JSO) qualification; administrative/program management experience at the graduate level.

Adjunct Faculty Functions

Teach the JMO course at the Intermediate Service College level with duties including: conducting classroom and online instruction; reviewing and evaluating student essays, examinations, and other written and verbal assessments; developing curricula; performing various types of service to the College; traveling to, and lecturing at, nonresident seminars around the country as required; and performing educational administrative functions as required.

New adjunct professors can expect to:

  • Serve as an Associate Fleet Professor in early 2026 to observe the course being taught by current Adjunct Professors to gain familiarity with the curriculum and learning management system of record. Associate Fleet Professor is a paid position.
  • Participate in a faculty development workshop in the summer of 2026. The workshop is a paid event.
  • Teach the JMO course as an Adjunct Professor starting Academic Year  (September 2026-May 2027). The course consists of one 3-hour, in-person, class each week throughout the academic year. Adjunct Professor is a paid position.
