Assistant Professor/Program Director of Medical Laboratory Science

The Nylen School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Morningside University is seeking applications for a Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Program Director tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level. This position is a 12-month appointment beginning August 10, 2026.

The Program Director for the Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) Program is responsible for cultivating academic excellence and ensuring the overall success of the Medical Laboratory Science and Phlebotomy programs. This position provides visionary leadership, strategic oversight, and direct accountability for program operations, accreditation compliance, faculty development, and student success.

  • Teaching load is 24 credits per academic year.
  • Provide didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction as assigned based on academic rank and professional credentials.
  • Select, update, and evaluate course materials, instructional aids, and learning resources.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to promote student learning in classroom, laboratory, and clinical environments.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic, professional, and career development matters.
  • Provide academic and personal support to students as needed, fostering a student-centered learning environment.
  • Engage in scholarly activities professional development that advance the field of Medical Laboratory Science and contribute to professional practice.
  • Actively contribute service to the university, community, and the profession through committee participation, outreach, and leadership roles.

Administrative Duties:

  • Organize, administer, and direct all aspects of the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) and Phlebotomy programs.
  • Lead curriculum planning, development, implementation, and evaluation to ensure alignment with NAACLS standards, professional competencies, and institutional goals.
  • Assume responsibility for program assessment, continuous quality improvement, and responsiveness to accreditation requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and update program policies and objectives that reflect NAACLS and university standards.
  • Monitor student outcomes and program data to identify trends, address needs, and support student success initiatives.
  • Prepare and submit annual NAACLS reports, supplemental reports, and other required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain consistent and transparent communication with NAACLS, the Dean, Provost, and other university leaders.
  • Participate in the development of the program budget and monitor program expenditures.
  • Recommend budget priorities and resource allocations to support program growth and sustainability.
  • Seek funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships to enhance program initiatives.
  • Direct, support, and evaluate program faculty and staff in alignment with institutional policies.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that promotes faculty professional development, scholarship, and teaching excellence.
  • Coordinate workload assignments and ensure effective communication among program personnel.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean, Provost, or President.

Qualifications:

  • Hold an earned master’s or doctoral degree.
  • Possess ASCP BOC or ASCPi BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in higher education or clinical education.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of educational methods, curriculum design, program administration, and student assessment.
  • Have current knowledge of NAACLS accreditation standards, certification procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth through at least 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every three years.
  • Exhibit strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, faculty, and external stakeholders.
