Under general supervision of the Dental Program Coordinator/Clinical Manager, this position will provide assistance to an Oral Surgeon, resident, or dental student during procedures which includes seating and preparing patients for treatment, recording of medical history, measuring pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and ensuring patient comfort, assurance and support. Assist in the care and handling of patients during dental treatment which involves setting up, missing, and passing of surgical instruments and materials, taking radiographs, patient education and giving post‑operative instructions;
cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas after procedures. The importance of this position is that the incumbent interacts with faculty, residents, students, and patients on both skillful and professional levels providing a necessary service of dental assistance.
LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Oral Surgery Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1 or 2. These positions are in a Career Progression Group. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Dental Assistant 1 or
2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Pay is dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only. You must include all relevant work experience and education on your application. The duties you describe will be reviewed as part of the process in determining if you meet the minimum qualifications for this job.
