Position SummaryThe Receptionist provides front-line customer service and visitor control for the BSEE/BOEM Gulf of America Region. This position ensures secure and efficient visitor processing, manages communications through the office switchboard, and supports emergency and security procedures.
Duties / Responsibilities- Staff the Visitor Control Center and reception desk during assigned shifts.
- Greet, screen, and badge all visitors in accordance with federal security protocols.
- Issue, track, and reconcile temporary passes and access badges.
- Verify identification and visitor authorization.
- Operate the Microsoft Teams phone/switchboard system.
- Answer and route calls within performance standards (within 3 rings).
- Monitor and manage voicemail inboxes.
- Support emergency notification procedures and Occupant Emergency Plan activities.
- Maintain accurate visitor logs and daily access reconciliation records.
- Report security incidents or irregularities to appropriate authorities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of customer service or front desk experience.
- Experience in a secure or government facility preferred.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Comfortable working with visitor management and access control systems.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods.
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Valid driver's license in good standing
The Receptionist works in a high-visibility, public-facing environment within the Visitor Control Center and main lobby of a secure federal facility. This role requires continuous interaction with visitors, employees, and staff and involves managing visitor access and communications while maintaining compliance with strict federal security procedures. The environment is often busy with frequent interruptions, periodic lines of visitors, and high foot traffic.
Noise levels may be moderate due to visitor activity and surrounding office operations.
This role requires prolonged standing or sitting at a reception workstation. Physical requirements include:
- Standing and walking for long periods during visitor processing.
- Frequent use of hands and arms for data entry, document review, and badge issuance.
- Ability to view and verify identification and operate visitor management systems.
- Occasional lifting of office supplies (up to 50 pounds).
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency or evacuation situations.
