Position DescriptionPosition Summary: As a Light Duty Equipment Operator at LRA
, you will be responsible for safely operating smaller construction equipment and assisting with general site preparation and construction activities. This role supports heavy equipment operators and field crews by performing light grading, material handling, and site maintenance tasks to help ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
- Operate light construction equipment such as skid steers, compact track loaders, mini excavators, and small rollers to assist with site preparation and material movement.
- Assist with light grading, spreading dirt or gravel, and maintaining work areas according to project specifications.
- Support heavy equipment operators and field crews during excavation, grading, and utility installation activities.
- Load, move, and stockpile materials such as dirt, gravel, and aggregate using light equipment or hand tools.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining safe access routes for equipment and trucks on job sites.
- Perform daily equipment checks and basic maintenance such as cleaning, fueling, and lubricating machines.
- Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections and report equipment issues to supervisors.
- Assist with installing drainage components, small piping, and other civil construction elements as directed.
- Perform general labor duties including shoveling, raking, lifting materials, and maintaining a clean job site.
- Secure tools, materials, and equipment to eliminate potential hazards.
- Follow all company safety procedures and report any incidents, hazards, or equipment problems to the foreman or safety personnel.
- Work collaboratively with crew members and assist in different roles on site as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience operating light construction equipment (skid steer, mini excavator, compact equipment) or working in a construction environment preferred.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety and procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to perform both equipment operation and manual labor tasks.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
The position requires frequent exposure to outdoor construction environments including dust, fumes, airborne particles, and moving equipment. Job sites may involve extreme weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, and rain, along with moderate to loud noise levels.
Physical Demands:Light Duty Equipment Operators must be capable of lifting and carrying moderate-weight materials, standing or walking for extended periods, and performing physically active tasks such as shoveling, raking, and material handling. Good hand-eye coordination and stamina are required to safely operate equipment and assist with job site duties.
