Location: New Orleans

This is not a remote position. Candidate must be available to travel extensively to be onsite in various locations throughout the Southeast.

Overview

The Pipe Superintendent oversees all field activities related to underground utilities and piping installation on civil construction projects. This role is responsible for managing crews, coordinating equipment and materials, ensuring work meets safety and quality standards, and delivering projects on schedule and within budget. The Pipe Superintendent works closely with project managers, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and field staff.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily activities of pipe crews including laborers, operators, and foremen.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work sequences for installation of water, sewer, storm drain, force mains, and other underground utilities.
  • Train and mentor crew members; promote a culture of safety, accountability, and quality workmanship.
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and plans; communicate requirements to crews.
  • Coordinate with project management on scheduling, manpower needs, material procurement, and equipment planning.
  • Work closely with inspectors, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure all work meets project specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce all company and OSHA safety policies, including trench safety, confined space procedures, and equipment operation standards.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings (toolbox talks) and job hazard analyses.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring safe working conditions at all times.
  • Ensure proper installation of pipes, bedding, backfill, and associated structures.
  • Perform inspections to confirm grade, alignment, compaction, and overall workmanship.
  • Document and correct deficiencies promptly.
  • Maintain daily reports including crew activities, quantities installed, weather conditions, and equipment usage.
  • Track production rates and adjust manpower or methods to maintain schedule.
  • Communicate issues, delays, or changes to project management promptly.
  • Coordinate delivery, staging, and efficient use of materials and equipment.
  • Verify materials meet project specifications before installation.
  • Minimize downtime by ensuring equipment is properly maintained and available.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in underground utility or civil pipe installation.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or foreman role.
  • Strong understanding of pipe installation methods, trench safety, shoring, dewatering, and civil construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in daily reporting and basic computer/tablet usage.
