Full Charge Bookkeeper

Description

We are looking for an experienced Full Charge Bookkeeper for our client in New Orleans. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in accounting and bookkeeping, particularly in construction or retail settings. The successful candidate will handle multiple financial responsibilities, including payroll, tax filings, and general ledger management, while supporting the overall financial operations of the organization.

Responsibilities:

- Accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R) processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

- Perform bank reconciliations for major operating, payroll, and smaller accounts.

- Manage job costing procedures, particularly for construction-related projects.

- Process weekly payroll in-house for approximately 15 employees and maintain employee records.

- Prepare and submit sales tax payments to state and city authorities, including those related to a retail antique shop.

- Handle quarterly filings and calculate monthly workers' compensation premiums, reporting figures to the insurance company.

- Collaborate with external auditors and accounting firms for year-end closings and compliance.

- Record journal entries as needed, while managing most transactions through cash, A/P, A/R, and payroll modules.

- Ensure accurate payment processing for 1099 subcontractors and manage related documentation.

- Perform general office duties to support financial operations.

Requirements

- Proven experience in job costing, particularly in the construction industry

- Proficiency in Sage Business Works or similar accounting software.

- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounts and journal entry processes.

- Demonstrated ability to handle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.

- Experience with payroll processing and filing payroll taxes.

- Familiarity with sales tax regulations and reporting requirements.

- Knowledge of bank reconciliation procedures for various account types.

- Ability to work with external auditors and accounting firms during audits or year-end closings.
