Job SummaryThis is a full-time, on-site role for a Senior Staff Accountant located in Geismar, LA. The Senior Accountant will manage the day-to-day accounting transactions of the accounting department under the direction of the Controller and Chief Financial Officer.
Duties/Responsibilities- Maintenance of bank accounts, general ledger, and account reconciliation.
- Directs input of invoices into accounting system;
Approves and records some invoices into accounting system. Reviews, monitors and records payments received and posted. - Prepares various payroll reports and records payroll data on a biweekly basis.
- Assist with fixed asset schedules.
- Assists external auditors and provides required statements and information for the annual audit.
- Assist with tracking of capital expenditures and construction project cost tracking.
- Responsible for maintenance of various insurance policies, including: equipment, vehicles, worker’s compensation, general liability, property, cyber, etc. Involved in annual insurance audits and renewals.
- Responsible for preparing and filing miscellaneous reports and documents including Secretary of State Annual Report, Occupational License, and 1099s.
- Identifies and recommends updates to accounting processes and procedures. Reports any discrepancies or irregularities to the Chief Financial Officer and/or Controller.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Mastery of accounting software and databases; advanced knowledge of spreadsheets
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
- Desire to learn about the regulated utility industry
- Sage Intacct software experience a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Seven years or more of related experience required
