Position: Learning Support Assistant (1:1 Autism Support EYFS)

A welcoming and well-regarded primary school in Loughton is seeking a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide 1:1 support for a child with autism in EYFS. This is a full-time, long-term position, starting as soon as possible, and offers a rewarding opportunity to support a child at a crucial early stage of their education.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support a child with autism on a one-to-one basis within an EYFS setting. Your role will be key in helping the child access learning, develop communication and social skills, and feel safe, supported, and included within the classroom environment.

The school is known locally for its nurturing ethos, strong SEN provision, and supportive staff team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing consistent 1:1 support for a child with autism in EYFS

  • Supporting learning through play-based and structured activities

  • Encouraging communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation

  • Helping to implement strategies outlined in the child s EHCP and support plans

  • Assisting with routines, transitions, and sensory needs

  • Promoting independence, confidence, and positive behaviour

  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team

  • Creating a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience supporting children with autism and/or SEN, ideally in EYFS

  • A patient, nurturing, and calm approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Confidence supporting emotional regulation and early learning development

  • A genuine passion for working with young children

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
