The Baseball Strategy and Information team of the Los Angeles Dodgers is responsible for supporting the Major League Coaching Staff and Baseball Operations leadership group with data and information needed for strategic decision making. As a Junior Analyst, you will work with other members of the Baseball Strategy and Information team to build reports and visualizations to communicate insights clearly and concisely to stakeholders.
This position offers the opportunity to push the boundaries of conventional thinking, grow analytically by solving challenging problems, and collaborate with leaders throughout Baseball Operations. As a member of the Baseball Strategy and Information team, you will see your work impact on the Major League team on a nightly basis.
- Serve as a liaison between ML Coaches and Baseball Operations, utilizing versatile communication skills and strong ability to connect baseball and technical concepts to drive championship level standards.
- Conduct in‑depth research and analyze players, teams and macro level trends across professional baseball, leveraging advanced statistical programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and database querying (SQL) to perform complex analyses and effectively communicate findings to a variety of stakeholders.
- Build and maintain workflows, tools, and reports that support the ML Run Production and ML Run Prevention processes, as well as Player Personnel decisions.
- Support mentorship of junior analysts and interns, guiding project management at their discretion, while providing technical expertise and specialized training.
- Work cross‑functionally with Research and Development, and other departments within Baseball Operations to achieve organizational goals.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate work consistently on short timelines in a high‑pressure environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and self‑improvement, proactively seeking out new knowledge, skills, and industry trends.
- Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in Baseball Operations, Baseball Analytics, or similar baseball industry role.
- A/B.S. in mathematics, economics, statistics, computer science, data science, operations research, or a related quantitative field.
- Some experience and familiarity with R, Python, SQL, or Git, preferably in a non‑classroom environment.
- Experience playing on a sports team or working within the sports industry is preferred (college or professional).
- Knowledge of data visualization principles to aid with communication of information to non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to relocate to Los Angeles and commute to Dodger Stadium.
- Ability to work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to work frequent overtime including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Overtime compensation will be provided according to company policy and applicable laws.
