Head of Engineering

Loan Light is an AI-powered automated underwriting platform specializing in non-qualified mortgage (non-QM) loans. We’re hiring a hands‑on Head of Engineering to architect, build, and scale our enterprise‑grade underwriting and pricing platform and AI‑driven agent workflows. This role will be central in shaping our core technology—particularly the design and implementation of robust agent‑based systems using frameworks like Lang Graph, Lang Chain, and similar tools. You’ll work closely with the CEO, product, design, and operations teams, and you’ll have full ownership of technology strategy, execution, and team growth.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned, product‑focused engineer with deep experience building complex backend and frontend products from scratch, proven expertise implementing enterprise‑grade AI agents, and the capability to lead and scale a small, excellent engineering team.

• Agent Framework Expertise: Interest or experience in designing and implementing agentic AI solutions using Lang Graph, Lang Chain, or comparable agent‑driven frameworks in an enterprise setting. We know these are new, it’s absolutely understandable if you have no experience with them - curiosity and willingness to learn is more than enough.
• Backend & API Development: Strong hands‑on skills in backend frameworks either in Python (FastAPI) or Node.js / TS (NestJS / Express / Fastify etc). Proven ability to architect highly scalable, secure backend services and APIs.

  Proficient with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue.js, Angular) and capable of delivering user‑centric interfaces and responsive design.
• Cloud Infrastructure & Dev Ops: Expertise with AWS (Lambda, EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, Cloud Front), infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, CDK), containerization (Docker), and robust CI/CD workflows (Git Hub Actions, Circle

• Data & Storage Systems: Strong database expertise in SQL (Postgre

• 10+ years of software engineering experience

• Demonstrated success as an engineering leader, ideally at the director or head‑of‑engineering level, in a fast‑paced startup or high‑growth environment.
• Strong experience navigating highly regulated domains such as finance, lending, or other sensitive enterprise environments is a significant plus.
