Facilities Maintenance Mechanic role at California State University, Northridge.
Major DutiesUnder general supervision, the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic performs preventive and responsive maintenance tasks, inspects mechanical rooms, and ensures operational efficiency of campus HVAC systems. Regularly monitor central utility plants, perform necessary chemical adjustments to water systems, and meticulously maintain records and logs. Collaborate closely with various trade teams on significant facility projects and repairs. Respond promptly to customer trouble calls and emergencies, ensuring continuous climate control, resolving mechanical system issues, and swiftly addressing power failures or related operational disruptions.
Operate vehicles safely across campus multiple times daily, and contribute proactively to maintaining clean, serviceable mechanical and utility areas.
- Monitors central utility plants and systems providing heating and air conditioning service to all University buildings to maintain climate control according to requirements.
- Performs water system analysis, may take chemical readings during work shift, and make chemical adjustments to water systems as required to protect systems.
- Responds to power failures, bollard lock and unlock requests, supply fans in alarm, damaged thermostats, fan belt noise, and other problems.
- Conducts emissions tests of boilers for proper operation.
- Performs general building and mechanical repairs within facilities and the related systems and components.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic, which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
- PREFERRED:
California Driver’s License and EPA Universal Certification.
- Thorough understanding of HVAC systems and central utility plant operations, including climate control, system monitoring, and water treatment practices necessary to maintain optimal building conditions.
- Comprehensive understanding of building mechanical systems, boiler operations, and safety protocols necessary to perform routine inspections, emissions testing, and maintain mechanical spaces in optimal condition.
- Proficiency in using building automation systems to diagnose, adjust, and resolve mechanical and climate control issues effectively, ensuring continuous campus-wide operational performance.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse trades teams on facility repair projects, demonstrating proficiency in general mechanical maintenance and minor repairs to ensure operational integrity across campus facilities.
- Capable of promptly addressing emergency and routine maintenance requests, accurately documenting system readings and activities, and effectively communicating emerging problems to supervisors or management around the clock.

Facilities Maintenance Mechanic / 6940 / 1 - The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5355 - $6528 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5355 - $7801 per month.
- HOURS:
Full Time; 40 hours per week;
Nights and weekends required. - This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
