Overview

A Cement Finisher Worker does semiskilled work in mixing, placing, and finishing concrete surfaces; and may act as head worker of a small crew.

Qualifications

Two years of full-time paid experience with the City of Los Angeles working as a helper to a Cement Finisher or Cement Finisher Worker;
or

Two years of full-time paid experience in placing and finishing concrete.

Process Notes

Applicants filing under Requirement #1 must submit with their application a City of Los Angeles “Verification of Work Experience” (VWE) form with the required signatures, verifying their experience as a helper to a Cement Finisher or Cement Finisher Worker. The VWE form should indicate the type of work performed and the amount of time spent performing such work. The VWE form may be downloaded at the VWE site.

Applicants may attach the completed VWE form to their online application at the time of filing, or will have seven (7) calendar days from the online submission date to e-mail a copy of their VWE form to per.appdocs. The subject line of the e-mail must include the exam title, applicant name and indication it is a VWE. In the body of the e-mail, include your first and last name, last four digits of your Social Security Number and contact phone number.

Applicants who fail to submit their assigned VWE form within the time required will not be considered further in this examination.

Applicants who lack six months or less of the required experience at the time of filing may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.

The positions of Cement Finisher Worker in the Department of Recreation and Parks require a valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California DMV at the time of appointment. The positions in the Department of Public Works – Bureau of Street Services and Bureau of Street Lighting require a valid Class B (or

A) driver’s license and a valid medical certificate prior to the completion of probation. Candidates will not be eligible for appointment if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects certain violations. For positions requiring a Class B license, a commercial driving history may be requested prior to appointment.

Examination

Weight: 100% Multiple-Choice Test. The test will be online, proctored, and may assess Mathematics, Judgment and Decision Making, Customer Service, Teamwork, Following Written Directions, Safety Focus, Job Knowledge, and related skills.
