PAY RATE 20.90 - 22.00 per hour

Job Summary And Purpose

The Lead Monitor will arrange, coordinate, supervise, mentor, and oversee the Monitors’ efforts to provide security of the program premises and safety for program clients, visitors and employees. The Lead Monitor will provide safety training to the Monitor staff and provide ongoing safety oversight. The Lead Monitor performs Monitor duties on behalf of program clients/participants, as well as leading and training Monitors.

Driving ability preferred.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assign shifts and ensure that Monitors are scheduled around the clock, planning personal shifts to observe each shift during the week.
  • Train Monitors in program operations, safety, and security expectations and procedures.
  • Oversee operations for safety practices and provide ongoing safety leadership.
  • Monitor Shelter entrance: monitor and authorize entrance and departure to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Bag & person screening: search all participants’ belongings when entering the shelter.
  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Observe shelter to ensure safe operations; report and correct any spills, unsafe working conditions, or defective equipment.
  • Know location of fire exits and be prepared to assist participants in case of an emergency.
  • Monitor clients and conduct room checks; maintain records of client compliance of program rules, report to clinical/case management staff.
  • Call police or fire department in cases of emergency such as fire or presence of unauthorized clients/persons.
  • Protect the shelter’s assets: report suspicious events to supervisor, complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities.
  • Act as a role model for participants at all times: place clients’ needs first.
  • Assist shelter staff during the provision of services to clients, including set‑up for classes, meetings, meals, recreation, and other shelter events.
  • For licensed monitors: drive participants to various locations, assist with mobility devices, maintain trip and vehicle records, and keep the vehicle clean and in good operating condition.
  • Input required data into computer systems and logs.
  • Other duties that may arise to support program goals.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to pass fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
  • Must successfully complete VOALA safety training within 30 days of hire.
  • One year in general security field and/or social services/human services/customer service experience.
  • One year of proven college coursework or completion of Homeless training course with a certificate can substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Current California driver’s license and clean driving record; preferred experience in a group residential setting, serving the homeless, or related mental health/substance abuse treatment setting.
  • Database familiarity; clean driving record insurable by VOALA insurance.
