Overview

The Account Manager is responsible for the overall successful management of 50-70 distribution national accounts, including developing new sales strategies to solicit new customers as well as increasing sales of current distributors, and meeting targets monthly to ensure the department’s success. This role also collects market information about pricing, competitor activity, and recent market changes to report to the Sales Manager.

Provides A to Z account management and relationship building with distributors.

Responsibilities
  • Manage daily business activities of assigned accounts, including pricing, shipments, scheduling of orders, order entry, securing new orders, and ensuring the highest level of service under the Company’s Sales Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develop business with existing or new customers in the assigned territory to ensure adequate market share.
  • Develop and maintain product knowledge of all Company products by attending technical training seminars and through self-study.
  • Send samples, literature, testing data, and necessary documentation to customers. Initiate and follow through with product assurance to resolve any order-related disputes.
  • Respond to customers’ requests for quotations in a timely, accurate manner. Visit assigned customers regularly to maintain relationships. Offer ideas on how to improve the Company through proper channels.
  • Work closely with Production to ensure product availability in the appropriate areas.
  • Be available to work with customers in different time zones and participate in weekly sales meetings.
  • Assist the credit department with collections issues and resolve disputes with customer accounts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Company information and comply with applicable policies; protect proprietary information, customer data, and business plans.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent experience in sales, telemarketing, or customer service, AND 3 years of inside/outside sales experience.
  • Computer Skills: Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
    Internet/Intranet experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups. Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume; ability to apply basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical Demands: Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and to talk or hear. May require sitting, standing, or walking; may lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distant vision and the ability to adjust and focus.
