Assistant Merchandiser, Prepared Foods Kitchen
Join T & T Supermarket as an Assistant Merchandiser reporting to the Category Manager, Prepared Foods Kitchen. The role supports the purchasing function in the region for the Kitchen Department by establishing business relationships and working closely with local suppliers. Key duties include handling the assigned department events plan/weekly promotion plan, maintaining performance of assigned categories, providing solutions to product issues, and following up with vendors on rebate or other matters related to Kitchen products.
T&T Supermarkets is celebrating over 30 years as Canada’s favorite Asian grocery store and is expanding into the U.S., with a flagship store opened in 2024 in Bellevue, Washington. The role offers opportunities for growth within the growing regional office in the greater Los Angeles area.
Responsibilities- Maintain regular communication with local suppliers to ensure the Kitchen Department’s business needs are met.
- Negotiate and establish contracts with local vendors; evaluate vendor performance, pricing, service levels, and prepare purchasing reports.
- Explore, develop, and strengthen business partnerships with local vendors.
- Monitor inventory levels and place timely orders to ensure adequate, high‑quality stock is available in the warehouse.
- Manage regional weekly promotion plans.
- Handle store and customer inquiries related to Kitchen products.
- Follow up with local vendors regarding orders, issues, and rebate matters.
- Maintain and improve the performance of assigned categories.
- Work closely with the FSQA team to ensure all vendors comply with food safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in the food services industry; experience in supermarket chain store Kitchen Department purchasing operation preferred.
- Knowledge and prior experience in food products (asset).
- Good negotiation skills with sound business judgment and decision‑making.
- Ability to build, develop and maintain relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English & Chinese (Mandarin &/or Cantonese).
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Some travel to stores &/or suppliers is a plus.
