Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Staff Research Associate will support the Lawrence Lab (lawrence‑lab.org) through core research activities and general lab operations, including ordering supplies and assisting with cell‑based and molecular biology studies. With experience, the incumbent may contribute to research projects and co‑author publications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform mammalian cell culture, including human cancer cell lines, iPSCs, and iPSC‑derived astrocytes.
- Conduct molecular biology techniques such as plasmid cloning, buffer preparation, RT‑PCR, immunostaining, and immunoblotting.
- Support advanced methods including live‑cell imaging, genome editing of iPSC lines, and genomic analyses (e.g., DNA methylation).
- Maintain detailed experimental records and weekly summaries of cell lines and procedures.
- Manage lab supplies, reagents, and general laboratory support tasks.
- Collaborate with undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and project scientists.
- Apply essential experience in human pluripotent stem cell culture; experience in RNA FISH and imaging strongly preferred.
- Assist with additional lab duties as needed.
Salary: $28.69 - $34.21 hourly
Job QualificationsRequired:
- Previous experience working in a laboratory setting and conducting research.
- Working skills with basic molecular biology laboratory equipment.
- Ability to perform several tasks at once, communicate clearly and work in a team environment. Ability to learn new methods and protocols.
- Must be responsible and able to work independently, without close supervision.
- Knowledge of PC and macitosh computers, spreadsheet and word processing programs.
- Ability to perform basic technical duties such as logging in reagents and data analyses.
- High organizational skills;
Ability to organize lab stocks and keep careful records in lab databases and lab notebooks.
Preferred:
- BS in Molecular Biology or related field.
- Previous experience in managing basic laboratory safety protocols highly desirable.
- General knowledge of cell and molecular biology.
- Knowledge of cell culture, including human pluripotent stem cell cultures, genotyping, and immunofluorescence is highly valuable.
