USC’s Keck School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, is seeking a Research Associate (RA) in the Saito laboratory to study hepatic cell biology, hepatic inflammation, and innate antiviral immunology. The laboratory uses a state-of-the-art humanized liver chimeric mouse model combined with advanced cell biology, virology, genetics, molecular biology, and systems biology techniques.

Job Overview

The ideal applicant will be a hardworking, creative, and highly self‑motivated researcher with a strong interest in pathogen–host interaction, liver diseases, inflammation, and immunity.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, lead, and conduct highly technical research projects under the PI’s guidance, including identifying research questions, designing experiments, and performing both in vitro and in vivo (mouse) studies.
  • Analyze research data, interpret results, and serve as a lead author for publications and conference presentations.
  • Operate laboratory equipment, utilize computer and research software for data analysis, and maintain laboratory quality control, including general experimental preparation, protocol maintenance, safety guidelines, and animal protocols.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of research experience with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures, and analysis methods.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including cloning, PCR, RT‑qPCR, transfection, and nucleic acid manipulation.
  • Experience with biochemistry, protein assays (Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, gel analysis), and microscopic analysis (immune fluorescent staining, immunohistochemistry, light microscopy, and image analysis).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to write grant proposals and scientific manuscripts.
Salary

The annual base salary range for this position is $70,745.28‑$94,988.00.
