Overview
The Institute for Carbon Management (ICM) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is seeking an experienced Electrolyzer Test Technician to join its interdisciplinary team. The candidate will advance UCLA's pioneering carbon management technologies by executing controlled laboratory experiments focused on electrolytic cell and catalyst performance. Responsibilities include conducting reproducibility studies, implementing quality control and assurance protocols to ensure data integrity, and performing detailed post-experiment analyses using advanced analytical techniques.
The position requires meticulous documentation of experimental procedures, observations, and results, along with preparing technical reports and contributing to internal data summaries. The candidate will collaborate within a dynamic research team to identify experimental challenges, analyze root causes, and develop effective solutions. Strong communication skills are essential for reporting findings and proposing improvements that support translating bench-scale research into scalable commercial applications.
- Conduct reproducibility studies and implement rigorous quality control and assurance protocols to ensure data integrity.
- Perform detailed post-experiment analyses using advanced analytical techniques.
- Meticulously document experimental procedures, observations, and results; prepare technical reports and contribute to internal data summaries.
- Collaborate with a dynamic research team to identify experimental challenges, analyze root causes, and develop effective solutions.
- Communicate findings clearly and propose improvements to support translation of bench-scale research to scalable commercial applications.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality control practices. (Required)
- Experience developing or following SOPs in a regulated lab setting. (Preferred)
- Experience with electrochemical cell testing and solution analysis (ICP-OES, UV-vis, DIC, XRD, etc.). (Preferred)
- Strong analytical and documentation skills with attention to detail. (Required)
- Proven ability to identify problems, troubleshoot effectively, and implement solutions. (Required)
- Self-starter with excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a team. (Required)
- Familiarity with QA/QC methods in a lab or R&D setting. (Preferred)
- Demonstrated contributions to scientific projects (e.g., publications, patents, reports). (Preferred)
- Passion for advancing carbon removal and environmental solutions. (Preferred)
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
- Master's Degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field. (Preferred)
