Job Description
Principal Investigator: Dr. David Gibb, PhD, is looking for a Research Associate II to join the Transfusion Immunology Laboratory in the Department of Academic Pathology at Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. The lab studies the immune response to red blood cell antigens following blood transfusions and the role of inflammation in this response.
A Research Associate II will work under direct supervision, performing routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks, developing technical expertise, and participating in all aspects of the research process. The position includes designing protocols, maintaining records, ordering supplies, assisting with specialized equipment, preparing data for publication, ensuring safety compliance, and orienting junior staff. No supervisory responsibilities are included.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Perform increasingly complex experimental protocols and assist in designing new protocols.
- Keep accurate, detailed records of experiments and results, and troubleshoot unexpected results.
- Order laboratory supplies and support lab operations.
- Maintain lab equipment and related records; coordinate use of equipment as needed.
- Assist in operating specialized equipment.
- Prepare data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
- Observe and comply with safety standards and procedures.
- Orient research laboratory assistants, lower‑level research associates, and undergraduate student researchers on day‑to‑day lab operations and routine procedures.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science or related field.
- At least 1 year of research laboratory experience (understanding of general research objectives, technical support, database management, PC skills, presentation skills, familiarity with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols).
- Self‑starter with excellent organizational and record‑keeping skills and ability to multi‑task while maintaining precision.
- Proficiency in mouse handling, basic lab skills, DNA extraction and PCR, flow cytometry, cell culture, animal husbandry, colony management, and basic genetics knowledge.
