Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator and Laboratory Manager, the Student Lab Assistant supports basic laboratory maintenance and provides technical assistance to the research team. Duties include maintaining laboratory stocks, evaluating inventories of supplies and consumables, waste disposal, autoclaving glassware and instruments. The assistant will also be trained to engage in supervised expansion and isolation of plasmids, molecular cloning, and maintenance of mouse and human cancer cell lines.
JobQualifications
Required:
- Registered as a UC Student
- Basic Knowledge of Molecular Biology
- Very well organized and highly dependable
- Highly motivated to learn new skills and techniques
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with campus departments and the public
Preferred:
- Basic laboratory skills including organization, preparing common lab reagents, pipetting and working with human primary cancer cells
