Research Associate II – Wolf Lab – Inflammatory Bowel & Immunology Research Institute

Overview

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is an organization known nationally for excellence in Inflammatory Bowel Disease treatment, research, and education. Dr. Wolf’s laboratory at Cedars-Sinai is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate II to study the innate inflammatory responses of myeloid cells. The laboratory focuses on cellular mechanisms that control innate inflammatory responses of myeloid phagocytes to bacterial and fungal infections, including exploration of the interaction between glycolytic metabolism and inflammatory responses.

The position is within the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Institute (IBDI) at Cedars-Sinai, a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment with translational focus.

• Performs a variety of increasingly complex experimental protocols and assists in designing new protocols and techniques.
• Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results; assists in troubleshooting unexpected results.
• Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.
• Maintains lab equipment and related records; may coordinate use of lab equipment.
• Assists in the operation of specialized equipment as required by the area of research.
• Assists in the preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
• Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
• Orients research laboratory assistants, lower-level research associates, and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.
• Independently conduct experiments planned with the PI and post-doctoral scientists; maintain accurate notes about lab work and results.
• Analyze basic data sets, generate figures, and present the work to the research group; participate in lab meetings and coordinate with lab staff on large projects.
• Communicate and coordinate research activities clearly within the lab.

• Education: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological sciences, required.
• Experience and Skills: One (1) year of experience is required; understanding of general research objectives.
• Some experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., ELISA, Western Blots, protein assays, cloning, RNA and DNA isolation) is a plus.
• Excellent time management and coordination of tasks to maximize effectiveness.
• Prior basic experience with cell culture is desirable.
• Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation/imaging software.
• Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols; computer skills including Excel and Word.
