Blue Pearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician. RVT Pay: $25.60 - $49.15 / hour.

• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Calculate basic medical math.
• Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.
• Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
• Safely dispense, reconstitute and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
• Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
• Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.
• Have knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens.
• Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration.
• Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as how to handle patient eliminations after chemotherapy, how to handle oral chemotherapy at home, chemotherapy and radiation side effects and oral medication administration.
• Maintain solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
• Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization. Facilitate incoming calls quickly and competently.
• Have knowledge of tumor types and understand diagnostic work-up protocols (including oncology-specific terminology for each tumor/cancer type per hospital protocol).
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients classified as ASA I or II.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in the assigned role by the attending clinician and/or supervisor.
• Maintain hospital for day-to-day function and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).

• Minimum two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital (preferred).
• Self-motivated, quick thinker, able to multi-task, with good communication skills and compassion.
• Ability to work closely with clinicians and clients in a fast-paced oncology setting.
