(This is a freelance, in-person position- you must have your own general gardening tools.
We do not provide benefits, and we are not able to sponsor anyone needing a work-visa.)
We are hiring garden hands $18-20/start based on experience, no experience necessary, working in edible gardens/orchards, with our senior gardener. If experienced, we can review the status and raise pay in three months.
Our clients are Santa Monica to Beverly Hills and Downtown LA so living near Culver-City for this position is most ideal.
Schedule- Hours tend to be 7/8am-2pm to avoid working the summer heat.
- Days are flexible but our senior gardeners works T-F. Upon completing training, you could work a Monday or weekend day however if preferred. You would also have autonomy in your schedule so long as you complete required tasks.
Typical days vary (which keeps it fun!), and every client space is unique, but all days include:
- Organic composting related tasks (we are composting on the floor of a hen house also).
- Nursery runs or errands
- Seeding, pruning, transplanting, greenhouse management, orchard care, and more - all in organic culinary gardens, cut flower gardens, pollinator gardens, and orchards.
- Folks will learn organic IPM, as well as maximum production with less water techniques we invented are writing a book about!
If you are interested in or have skills related to beekeeping, we are training our beeke in the first Regenerative Beekeeping principles (globally) that Honey Girl Grows has authored.
Pay Rate- $18/hour for entry-level position (raised with experience). Contact us if you are an experienced gardener to get more information
- Mileage between gardens (starting from first garden to last garden)
- You must be comfortable with organic pest management and soil building strategies. In addition, you should be interested in landscaping and agricultural techniques such as crop rotation for seasonality and soil health, etc.
- You must be physically fit and capable of lifting, carrying, digging, and moving bags of soil, pots, wheelbarrows, 15 gallon fruit trees, etc.
- This job requires a significant amount of driving. You must have access to a car.
- Finally, it's important that you have a sense of humor and flexibility in the face of vegetable gardening!
- Must have a driver's license
- Must have a reliable vehicle
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
