Your Petco Grooming Career

As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will provide professional grooming services to our valued customers’ pets. With your expertise and attention to detail, you will ensure that each pet receives exceptional care, leaving them looking and feeling their best.

• Under moderate to limited supervision, perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, according to pet parent instructions and breed standards, in accordance with company policies.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize the well-being and safety of every animal in the salon, monitor for signs of discomfort, illness, or injury, and report concerns to pet owners and store management.
• Evaluate each pet’s needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
• Interact professionally with pet parents, provide customer service, address grooming-related inquiries, and offer recommendations with timely resolutions.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at-home care practices and products to promote overall well-being.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area; disinfect and sanitize tools and equipment; perform cleaning duties in line with Petco hygiene and sanitation policies.
• Follow Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency in all grooming activities.
• May train, support, and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem solving with some guidance from leadership as needed.
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity and ownership of the grooming role.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure grooming services meet high standards.
• Genuine passion for animals and a desire to pursue a career in pet grooming.
• Knowledge of various dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behaviors; proficiency in breed-specific cuts and styling.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

The majority of job duties are indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. May involve exposure to heights and noisy, wet conditions. A large portion of time will be spent in direct contact with pet parents and their dogs, with the remainder spent with other salon partners.
