Keck Hospital of USC is a leading academic medical center delivering surgical and perioperative care through 24 main operating rooms and multiple off‑site ambulatory locations. Our perioperative nursing teams strive for excellence in patient care, collaboration, and professional development.
The Moment & OpportunityFollowing interim coverage by the Perioperative Director, this Manager role is now open to lead our Same‑Day Surgery and PACU areas, supporting 24 main ORs as well as Cath Lab and IR procedures. You will join an experienced nursing team and have the autonomy to shape and unify a high‑performing department while ensuring consistent standards of care across all perioperative sites.
Scope& Impact
- 24‑hour accountability for the quality of patient care, operational efficiency, and human resources in Same‑Day Surgery and PACU, including Pre‑Op, Cath Lab, and IR suites.
- Supervision and leadership of charge nurses, RN supervisors, and frontline staff—promoting Shared Governance and Magnet principles to advance professional nursing practice.
- Collaboration with the Department Chair, Division Chiefs, outpatient site managers, and inpatient units to optimize patient throughput and bed assignments.
- Oversight of staffing tools such as Optilink and Kronos—flexing resources based on census, patient acuity, and budget guidelines to maintain safe, cost‑effective care.
- Development and implementation of data‑driven performance improvement initiatives in compliance with JCAHO, Title 22, and hospital policies.
- In the first year, establish visible leadership and earn staff trust, demonstrated through active participation in Shared Governance councils and staff engagement.
- Enhance perioperative flow by partnering with inpatient teams to reduce PACU bottlenecks and improve turnover times.
- Lead cross‑functional performance improvement projects that document decreases in avoidable delays and strengthen patient safety metrics.
- Maintain high patient and physician satisfaction scores as measured by established department surveys.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Valid California RN license;
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required;
Master’s degree in Nursing (or in progress) strongly preferred. - Minimum five years of RN experience, including at least three years in Pre‑Op/PACU; two years in a charge nurse or management role preferred.
- Certifications:
BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association; CCRN or equivalent critical care credential preferred;
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required within 30 days of hire if applicable. - Proven experience with Shared Governance and Magnet frameworks; strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build partnerships across nursing, physician, and administrative teams.
- Thorough understanding of JCAHO and Title 22 requirements, workforce management, and unit‑based quality improvement.
