Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The staff RN PD is a professional caregiver responsible for the surgical patient. Under minimal supervision, functions as a scrub and circulating nurse. Participates in call assignments including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ensures compliance with department standards such as attendance and dress code. Responsibilities include proper care of instrumentation and equipment, direct nursing care utilizing the nursing process, leadership, delegation, and communication.
Also involves teaching patients, staff, and students, maintaining professional standards, and participating in a survey-ready environment. Ensures patient safety by following regulatory and hospital standards and utilizes evidence-based research to guide practice.
Minimum of two years experience as a circulating and scrub nurse in an inpatient Operating Room is required. Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school. Experience with Electronic Health Records for documenting operative procedures is necessary. Skills needed include setting priorities, organizing workload, and managing multiple assignments with multilevel personnel. Must be proficient in English, with excellent medical/surgical terminology.
Ability to work independently and follow through on all tasks. Capable of moving objects safely, including heavy carts and surgical equipment. A BSN is required. California RN license, CPR certification, and preferably Certified Nurse Operating Room, ACLS, and PALS certifications are required. Official transcripts or original diploma from a registered nursing program must be provided upon hire.
