Job Summary:
As the leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect.
- The Registered Nurse demonstrates proficiency by exhibiting the following skills, competencies, and behaviors:

- Demonstrates ability to problem solve with other departments to resolve member issues.
- Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.
- Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
- Nursing Process
- Develops and contributes to the individualized plan of care reflecting assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes.
- Ensures multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education in the plan of care.
- Ensures the plan reflects admission or outpatient data, ongoing findings, age-appropriate care, cultural needs, and appropriate acuity.
- Discusses the plan with patient, family/significant others, and completes promptly.
- Monitors progress and revises the plan as condition evolves.
- Ensures care meets standards of practice and supports discharge planning, including education for patient/family.
- Ensures patient safety (medications, procedures, falls prevention, infection prevention) and optimal pain control; addresses patient anxieties or concerns.
- Ensures patient and family understand medication purposes and instructions at hospital and discharge.
- Team Commitment
- Actively participates as an effective, flexible, cooperative team member; handles conflicts constructively; accepts accountability.
- Acts as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registry, students, and other team members.
- Attends mandatory meetings and professional development; participates in unit learning needs assessment and annual education planning.
- Maintains knowledge of unit activities and supports change; adheres to Attendance Program; supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership.
- Fiscal Responsibility: organizes work to minimize overtime and utilizes payroll/non-payroll resources effectively.
- Patient Care Experience
- Practices customer service standards; responds promptly to call lights, alarms, and patient requests; provides clear discharge instructions; maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and functional work environment; treats families with courtesy and compassion; provides patient-centered care that exceeds expectations.
- Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of recent full-time equivalent experience in Level III NICU or completion of KP NICU course or approved equivalent within prior 12 months. May be cross-trained to at least one other Perinatal area.
- Education
- Graduation from an accredited or NLN-approved program. Attend continuing education relevant to practice.
- License, Certification, Registration
- Registered Nurse License (California)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program
- Basic Life Support
- Additional Requirements
- Maintains membership in a related professional organization (e.g., AWHONN, NANN, ANA California, AAP).
- Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years Level III NICU transport;
Neonatal Critical Care Transport Course preferred; two years of neonatal transport experience; three years of NICU Level III-IV experience; STABLE, critical care, and neonatal transport certification.
