CARE is an LAUSD career ladder that provides individualized support, mentoring, and financial assistance to classified employees seeking a career in school nursing. CARE is a program of support, not a nursing education program.

• Mentorship and Guidance
• Professional Development
• Hiring assistance to become a full-time credentialed school nurse

• Maintain employment with LAUSD in a classified or Teacher Assistant position
• Make steady progress towards earning a bachelor’s degree and/ or an RN License
• Meet with a Career Ladder Specialist once yearly to review progress and goals
• Maintain regular attendance by meeting the District’s attendance goals
• Commit to work as a school nurse for two years in LAUSD after earning a clear school nurse credential

• Current employment in LAUSD in a classified or Teacher Assistant position
• Recommendation from your you current principal or Nursing Administrator
• Meet District or job class attendance requirements
• Willingness to undertake a rigorous course of study to obtain an RN License and a bachelor’s degree, which are requirements for a school nurse position

• Selected applicants will be interviewed for final selection
