Role OverviewAs Clinical Nurse III in the Surgical Oncology Clinic you will be encouraged to educate patients about their diagnosis, treatment plans, surgery and what to expect during their oncology journey. Provide information on managing side effects and maintaining quality of life during treatment. The role also involves prioritizing patient messages, assessing their urgency, and managing responses based on that evaluation. Care coordination includes collaborating with the healthcare team, including physicians, NP’s, PA’s, and interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care.
Assist in scheduling treatments and follow‑up appointments. A strong knowledge of Surgical Oncology and Hepato‑Pancreato‑Biliary surgery is preferred.
- Assist with in‑office procedures, clinic flow, practice management, and help facilitate continuity of care
- Manage outpatient chemotherapy schedule, setup new oral chemotherapy medications electronically and manage monthly prescriptions
- Telephone triage of clinic patients with needs ranging from chemotherapy, results review, and symptom management
- Manage acute and chronic side effects after autologous stem cell transplant
- Administer intermuscular and subcutaneous chemotherapy injections; work with CADD pumps for continuous infusions, access, de‑access and troubleshoot PAS‑ports and chest ports
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and treatment side effects
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
- BSN preferred
- Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of California
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred
- Competency in intravenous skills and vascular access device management required
- Minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience required
- At least 2 years of experience in oncology nursing preferred
