The Moment & Opportunity
This role comes as USC Medical Center reinforces Shared Governance and advances Magnet Forces at the unit level. You will lead unit council meetings, track performance improvement activities, and collaborate with the Education Department, Nursing Quality, and Risk Management to uphold JCAHO and Title 22 standards.
Scope & Impact- Manage daily operations of your unit in collaboration with charge nurses, physicians, and support departments to ensure safe, efficient patient care.
- Select, retain, and develop nursing staff—supervising recruitment and retention activities, coordinating orientation and continuing education with HR and the Education Department.
- Drive data-driven decisions by collecting required elements for monthly submission to Nursing Quality, communicating PSMS scores, and overseeing occurrence report processes, including “Never 27” events.
- Use the budget to optimize care delivery—flexing staff in Optilink, approving Shift Quest schedules, and managing resources to align with patient acuity and census.
- Foster Shared Governance and Magnet Forces participation, ensuring 100% staff attendance at mandatory education and training modules.
Success in this role will be measured by consistent on-time submission of monthly quality data, full compliance with JCAHO and Title 22 requirements, maintenance of stable staffing aligned to patient needs, and a culture of continuous improvement through Shared Governance and Magnet initiatives.
QualificationsIdeal Candidate Profile
You are a strategic nursing leader who balances clinical expertise with human-centered management, thriving in complex environments and guiding teams to excellence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required;
Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred (Master’s may substitute for Bachelor's). - Minimum 4 years of experience as an RN, including 2 years in a formal management role.
- Oncology and ICU experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with Kronos, Optilink, or similar workforce management systems.
- Solid understanding of Title 22, JCAHO requirements, and PSMS metrics to drive practice improvements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to lead unit council meetings and promote cross-department collaboration.
- Active California RN license; current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association; LA City Fire Life Safety Training within 30 days of hire.
