Overview
The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Coordinator, Health Promotions
. Working as a member of the Health Promotions department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.
We are looking for a candidate to Coordinate, implement and evaluate lung health programs throughout Los Angeles County and surrounding markets as well as implement the Comprehensive Tobacco Control Service in LA County Project. The Health Promotions Coordinator will work with community members to implement lasting changes that will improve lung health and health equity across assigned areas by conduct community needs assessment activities;
recruiting and engaging coalition members; creating and delivering presentations; developing educational materials, and coordinating events to engage local communities in advancing smokefree multi-unit housing policy campaigns in Carson and Hawthorne. This is a 100% grant funded position.
Location: The position is located at the American Lung Association’s Los Angeles, California office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work.
Responsibilities- Assist supervisor in implementing and evaluating a public health education program that will focus on lung health awareness and smoke free environments.
- Work in coordination with project team to develop, implement and evaluate community engagement and health education programs focused on smokefree environments and lung health.
- Build support for project efforts within the community by conducting community outreach, hosting trainings, engaging community members in coalitions, and providing educational opportunities that expand smokefree spaces.
- Effectively utilize timelines and work plans to ensure completion of project deliverables.
- Build, maintain and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to advance program goals and encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across the Los Angeles County region including American Lung Association programs including Freedom From Smoking, Better Breathers Clubs, Asthma Basics, LUNG FORCE Expo, etc. within assigned territory.
- Explore opportunities to connect and enhance collaborations throughout the Lung Association
- Contribute to all progress reports and monthly reporting of grant activities.
- Research and implement best practices for smokefree environments and initiatives within priority populations.
- Collaborate with supervisor in growing American Lung Association programs within assigned territory.
- Provide support for Southern California program and development events, such as lung cancer workshop, LUNG FORCE Walk, and other related activities.
- Actively participate in coalitions identified in the Comprehensive Tobacco Control Service in LA County Project Scope of Work.
- Participate on national American Lung Association program work groups and committees as requested.
- Provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities assigned.
- Participate in and support community related programs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in public health or related field preferred.
- Some experience in public health, public policy, or related field.
- Spanish speaker preferred.
- Experience in coalition building and community health development.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to clearly articulate the mission and vision of the ALA.
- Strong project management skills to research and execute specific program deliverables.
- Strategic in developing/maintaining relationships with medical professionals, public health community, and members of the public.
- Computer literate; knowledge using Microsoft programs helpful.
- Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs.
- Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area 20% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required.
