Overview
The Laser Operator is responsible for operating CNC laser cutting equipment to cut metal materials according to engineering drawings, work orders, and production schedules. This role supports fabrication operations by ensuring parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and safely while meeting quality standards.
Responsibilities- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC laser cutting machines to cut steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other materials as required.
- Load and unload raw material sheets using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment as applicable.
- Interpret and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and cut lists.
- Verify material type, thickness, and dimensions prior to cutting.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, and micrometers.
- Adjust machine parameters (speed, power, focus) as required to ensure cut quality.
- Remove cut parts, sort, label, and stage material for downstream fabrication processes.
- Perform routine machine maintenance including cleaning lenses, checking consumables, and basic troubleshooting.
- Identify and report equipment issues, material defects, or quality concerns to supervision.
- Follow all company safety policies, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and basic GD&T.
- Experience using basic inspection and measuring tools.
- Familiarity with metal materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. with or without assistance.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
Schedule:
M-F 7am-3:30pm with OT Saturdays 7am-12noon
Pay rate: $22-$25/hr.
