VP, Business Development - Regulatory & Franchise Verticals
The Trade Desk (TTD) is changing the way global brands and their agencies advertise to audiences around the world. Why? Because at its best, the internet is an open marketplace of ideas, content, and commerce fueled by relevant advertising. That’s why we created an independent media buying platform designed for the open internet – one that helps marketers reach more customers in more places, with more transparency and choice at every stage.
THE ROLEThe Trade Desk (TTD) is seeking an accomplished and visionary Vice President, Business Development – Regulatory and Franchise Verticals, to lead our strategy and relationships with the world’s leading brands. This leader will own and scale several of The Trade Desk’s most strategically critical verticals – each complex on its own, together representing a massive share of revenue, influence, and future growth.
This is a true GM‑style role. The person will run multiple vertical businesses in parallel, each with distinct buying dynamics, regulatory realities, and agency relationships – while building a cohesive operating model across them. If you’re great at complexity, scale, and people leadership, this is your arena.
- Develop a multi‑billion‑dollar book of business, setting vertical‑specific strategies that reflect distinct market dynamics across QSR, Finance, & Insurance, Auto, Pharma, and Canada.
- Balance near‑term revenue delivery with durable, multi‑year growth.
- Make clear investment and prioritization decisions across verticals.
- Serve as senior executive sponsor to C‑suite clients, agencies, and holding companies.
- Navigate regulatory‑heavy environments (Finance, Pharma) with credibility and discipline.
- Represent TTD externally with authority and clarity.
- Establish consistent operating rhythms across diverse vertical teams.
- Drive forecasting rigor, pipeline quality, and resource allocation.
- Ensure leaders are aligned on priorities while retaining vertical nuance.
- Hire, develop, and retain senior leaders across regions and verticals.
- Create clarity in org design, decision rights, and accountability.
- Raise the bar on talent density and leadership maturity.
- 15+ years of experience in advertiser leadership, strategic partnerships or business development roles with deep knowledge of brand marketing and media investment strategies.
- Proven track record of leading a $4B+ book of business with full accountability.
- Strong commercial acumen, including understanding of marketing P&L, media planning and buying workflows and programmatic advertising ecosystems.
- Experience leading large, complex teams (40+ FTE; 150+ preferred).
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, capable of navigating complex multi‑party agreements with agency Hold Cos and multi‑billion dollar clients.
- Global perspective with success leading distributed teams and scaling programs across multiple regions.
- Authentic and values‑driven leader, someone who embodies our core values.
- Collaborative leadership style – you thrive in a non‑political, team‑first environment, building trust and alignment across diverse stakeholders and global teams.
- A forward‑looking perspective – you anticipate industry shifts and demonstrate grit and adaptability when navigating complexity and change.
- Inclusive and empathetic – you champion diversity of thought and foster an environment where all voices are heard and respected.
- Low ego, high impact – you prioritize outcomes over credit.
This isn’t a single‑vertical GM job. It’s a portfolio role – requiring judgment, delegation, and pattern recognition ’ll be trusted to run major parts of the company with autonomy, backed by real authority and expectations.
