Aboutthe Role
As the Director of SVOD & Membership Strategy at Crunchyroll, you will support the long‑term strategic direction for both the SVOD and Membership lines of business (LOBs). Reporting to the VP of SVOD and Membership Strategy within the COO organization, you will define the vision, roadmap, and operating rhythm that guide how Crunchyroll acquires, engages, and retains fans through world‑class subscription and membership experiences.
We’re looking for a seasoned strategy leader from a media or technology environment with deep experience in subscriptions, digital retail, advertising, or e‑commerce, and a proven track record leading high‑performing teams.
Core Areas of Responsibility SVOD and Membership Strategic Planning- Lead the annual and quarterly planning rhythm for SVOD and Membership, aligning goals, resources, and priorities
- Build Crunchyroll’s multi‑year roadmap for subscriber and membership growth using global and regional insights
- Create the frameworks and forums that keep the COO org, LOB leaders, Finance, and regions aligned
- Analyze market performance, subscriber behavior, and growth drivers across regions
- Track competitive trends and industry shifts to inform long‑term strategy
- Identify and evaluate future “big bets” for the SVOD business, including new models, partnerships, and platform opportunities
- Guide regional investment decisions using structured territory factbases
- Partner with Finance on long‑range revenue, subscriber, and unit‑economic planning
- Support strategic projects for senior leadership as needed
- Shape Crunchyroll’s global membership vision, tier structure, and benefit design to deepen fan value and loyalty
- Evolve audience and fan segmentation to inform membership strategy with data‑driven insights
- Evaluate pricing and value across markets and tiers, including benchmarking and regional optimization
- Build business cases for new or expanded membership benefits, including testing and measurement plans
- Partner with teams across e‑commerce, events, games, manga, partnerships, and licensing to connect membership to the broader fan ecosystem
- 12+ years in strategy consulting or corporate strategy in media or tech, and 5+ years leading high‑performing teams
- Experience in digital retail, subscriptions, advertising, or e‑commerce
- Preferred:
Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or comparable professional experience demonstrating strong strategic, operational, and leadership skills - Demonstrated ability to turn complex data and market insights into clear recommendations for executive leaders
- Proven ability to influence and align cross‑functional teams without direct authority
- Track record of creating structure, frameworks, and priorities in ambiguous or evolving situations
The SVOD & Membership Strategy Team sits within the COO organization, with the VP of Strategy and Membership reporting directly to the COO. This team is tasked with shaping Crunchyroll’s long‑term direction and helping orchestrate how the company unlocks value, fuels global growth, and inspires deeper avidity for Crunchyroll across the anime fan ecosystem.
