Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Education Abroad, the Assistant Director leads the development and management of summer and semester study abroad programming across a range of models, including partnerships with third‑party providers, direct‑enroll universities, and U.S. institutions with international campuses. The role oversees the application process, student advising, financial management, marketing, staff training, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education Abroad to develop a comprehensive study abroad program strategy aligned with the university’s mission.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third‑party study abroad providers, direct‑enroll institutions, and global partners.
  • Ensure credit‑bearing international education initiatives meet institutional expectations, norms, and best practices and conduct program evaluations.
  • Develop and manage policies and procedures that enhance student access, promote services, and maintain program satisfaction.
  • Oversee student advising and application processes, ensuring compliance with LMU policies and providing efficient access to academic and programmatic information.
  • Support financial functions, including budgeting, billing, accounting, enrollment management, scholarship awards, and financial aid advising.
  • Develop and oversee marketing plans, outreach, event planning, and returnee engagement efforts.
  • Manage staff training, evaluation, development, and motivation.
  • Assist with risk and crisis management and provide support to students and faculty regarding student health, academic issues, and onsite concerns.
  • Stay informed of current trends, resources, and standards for study abroad program management, and engage in professional networks and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field and proven personnel management experience in a higher education setting.
  • Minimum 4 years of increasingly complex management experience in an academic or international education environment; preference for experience with third‑party study abroad providers.
  • Demonstrated success liaising with third‑party providers, contracting, program review, service level agreements, and partner audits.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience in database management, data analysis, and statistical reporting.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize workload in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective teamwork and cross‑cultural communication abilities.
  • Ability to create and give effective presentations and maintain office record‑keeping procedures.
