Department Summary
We provide Custodial Services for UCLA’s over 12.5 million combined state supported and client requested square footage. We cater to all areas of our University, including specialized areas such as vivarium, recreational facilities, wet and dry laboratories and patient care areas. To make this all run smoothly, it takes a team of dedicated and trained custodians to provide our customers with the highest level of service while meeting their needs 7 days a week.
Position Summary
The role supports custodial services across UCLA’s 12.5 million square feet of state-supported and client-requested facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in a wide range of environments, including general campus areas. The position requires a reliable, well-trained custodial team to deliver high-quality service, meet diverse customer needs, and ensure consistent operations seven days a week.
Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. - Custodial
Experience:
One year previous custodial experience (Required) - Equipment Knowledge: proper use of floor care machines (e.g., stripping machine, waxer/buffer, water pick‑ups) (Required)
- Equipment Knowledge: materials, methods, and equipment utilized by custodial staff, including achievement of operational level skills (Required)
- Communication: oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise, grammatically correct information (Required)
- Communication: ability to write standard English text at the complete‑sentence level (e.g., inspection reports, forms, supply orders) (Required)
- Working knowledge of all aspects of custodial cleaning and/or general maintenance duties and services (Required)
- Ability to coordinate work projects, direct and inspect work of subordinates, and lead small groups (Required)
- Ability to correct inaccuracies in workmanship and communicate customer concerns (Required)
- Ability to maintain highest quality of custodial service at a level consistent with University and department standards (Required)
- Skill in reading technical instructions related to custodial work (Required)
- Oral communication skills (Required)
- Ability to write standard English text at the complete‑sentence level (Required)
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, visitors, and outside agencies (Required)
- Working knowledge of standard safe work practices (Required)
- Ability to maintain good attendance (Required)
- Ability to work overtime and weekends (Required)
- Ability to work various shifts (Required)
- High School (Preferred)
- Must possess California Driver’s license, Class
C. Ability to drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties (Required)

Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination. - Driving Record:
The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
