Why this role exists
We’re rebuilding and growing our service department. We need a hands‑on diagnostic leader who can bring structure to the shop floor: diagnose trucks correctly, map the repair path, dispatch work to the right technician, and drive quality and accountability—so our Service Manager can focus on customer relationships and bringing in more work.
This role is the communication hub between technicians, advisors, and parts, ensuring repairs are completed properly, efficiently, and safely.
What you’ll do (day‑to‑day)Diagnostics leadership (hands‑on)
- Diagnose incoming work and perform/assign triage for all service work.
- Build the repair plan and determine the best technician for each job.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and hands‑on help to technicians as needed to complete repairs correctly.
- Own the workflow and daily communication between technicians, service advisors, and parts.
- Run daily huddles (10–25 minutes) to plan the day: review open work, promised times, parts/approval issues, and upcoming appointments.
- Practice real‑time shop management: frequent floor walks to verify status, catch issues early, and remove bottlenecks (skills, parts, tools, technical support).
- Update priorities and communicate changes quickly when a job is off track, needs escalation, or requires rescheduling.
- Final review/sign‑off on completed repair orders: confirm the work is complete, documentation is accurate, and road tests are performed when required.
- Own end‑of‑process quality checks and quickly redirect failed QC work to the right technician to minimize downtime.
- Drive accurate technician notes and clean documentation standards so there is a clear story of what was found and what was fixed.
- Coordinate closely with Parts; ensure warranty/core parts are handled correctly.
- Maintain a safe, clean shop environment and follow regulations.
- Maintain tool and diagnostic equipment control and accountability.
- Help ensure the shop is staffed correctly for quality and throughput.

- Use modern diagnostic workflows, including AI‑assisted diagnostic tools, to speed root‑cause analysis and improve first‑time‑fix accuracy—while applying sound mechanical judgment and safe repair practices.
