Job DescriptionUnder supervision, maintain an assigned school facility, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule; and perform other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties- Maintain an assigned school facility, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule.
- Sweep, mop, strip, wax and seal floors.
- Vacuum rugs and carpets.
- Dust, wash and polish furniture and woodwork.
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, including trash barrels.
- Clean restrooms, locker rooms and other facilities.
- Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork, and clean whiteboards.
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment in preparing multipurpose rooms or classrooms for special events or meetings.
- Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes.
- Clean window coverings, such as drapes and blinds.
- Picks up paper and other debris from school grounds, walk areas, and the areas adjacent to the school facilities.
- Sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to the school buildings.
- Perform emergency cleanup service resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling, and illness.
- Might raise and lower flags, and lock and unlock gates and doors, and set security systems.
- Assist in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment.
- Might perform minor maintenance tasks in keeping assigned areas safe and operational.
- Might occasionally perform routine ground maintenance functions.
- Assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques;
- Cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment;
- Safe working methods and procedures.
- Perform moderately medium to heavy manual activities;
- Efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment;
- Understand and carry out oral written directions;
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- This type of work may involve ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, and will involve walking or standing for extended periods.
- Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.

ExperienceOne year of experience in custodial and maintenance work, preferably in a school district.
EducationEquivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License RequirementPossession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
