Assistant Purchasing Agent

The Assistant Purchasing Agent supports the purchasing department by coordinating material orders, tracking deliveries, and assisting with vendor communications for commercial electrical construction projects. This role works closely with the Purchasing Manager, Project Managers, Superintendents, and warehouse staff to ensure materials are ordered accurately, delivered on time, and aligned with project schedules.

• Assist with purchasing electrical materials, equipment, and supplies for commercial projects
• Review material takeoffs, drawings, and specifications to support accurate ordering
• Prepare and issue purchase orders under the direction of the Purchasing Manager
• Track order status, lead times, and deliveries to job sites and warehouses
• Communicate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, backorders, and delivery changes
• Coordinate with project teams to resolve material shortages or discrepancies
• Maintain purchasing records, vendor documentation, and order logs
• Assist with returns, credits, and warranty claims
• Support inventory control and warehouse coordination
• Help identify cost savings and preferred vendor opportunities

• 1–3 years of experience in construction purchasing, electrical supply, or related field
• Basic knowledge of commercial electrical materials and terminology preferred
• Ability to read construction plans and material schedules (training provided if needed)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or construction management software preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
• Strong communication and follow‑up skills

• Experience with a commercial electrical contractor or electrical distributor
• Familiarity with NEC standards and common electrical components
• Experience coordinating materials for multiple active job sites
