Job Description and DutiesPresides over hearings in CDSS and DHCS Program areas, including CalWORKs, Cal Fresh, Medi-Cal, IHSS, Scope of Benefits, Resource Family Approval, and Covered California, among others. Handles all types of hearings, including complex and/or sensitive cases. Interprets and applies provisions of federal and state statutes, regulations, and department policies. Rules on objections and subpoena requests, addresses postponement requests, sets continued hearings, and addresses other case management issues to maintain proper flow of cases assigned by the Supervising Administrative Law Judge (SALJ).
Submits timely and legally correct final and proposed decisions as delegated, at a rate and quality consistent with State Hearings Division (SHD) standards. May serve as a subject matter expert on CalWORKs, Cal Fresh, and Medi-Cal cases and consult with other ALJs on points of law; may serve as reviewer of proposed decisions or as duty judge for pre-hearing matters.
Participates on special projects and attends SHD meetings as assigned.

Location:
Los Angeles, CA 90017. Partial telework available. Counties served include Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura. Hybrid work is available in accordance with Executive Order N-22-25. Telework schedules are subject to change. The incumbent may be required to report in-office and attend in-person events as needed. Telework does not change essential functions or CDSS policies. Headquarter location may be designated based on primary residence or closest CDSS location.
Regular commute is not compensable.
