Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY: The Lemon Law & Consumer Litigation Counsel will support the Company’s legal function with a primary and immediate focus on Lemon Law matters, consumer warranty disputes, and vehicle repurchase (buy-back) programs involving Vin Fast U.S. entities. The role will also provide support across other litigation and dispute-related matters as needed, consistent with business priorities and under appropriate legal supervision.
OverviewThis position is well-suited for a junior attorney (1+ years of experience) seeking hands-on exposure to consumer litigation, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution within a fast-growing automotive environment. The role partners closely with internal teams and external counsel to support efficient, compliant, and scalable legal processes.
Responsibilities & Key Activities- Support the handling of consumer-related litigation and disputes, including Lemon Law claims, consumer warranty matters, and vehicle repurchase (buy-back) cases, primarily within California and other applicable U.S. jurisdictions.
- Assist in managing litigation matters in coordination with internal stakeholders and outside counsel, including case intake, documentation review, matter tracking, and status reporting.
- Review and respond to consumer complaints, demand letters, arbitration filings, and pre-litigation correspondence, ensuring timely escalation and resolution consistent with Company guidelines.
- Support the development and execution of litigation and settlement strategies related to Lemon Law and consumer warranty matters, including participation in settlement evaluations and negotiations as appropriate.
- Provide legal support to internal teams (Customer Care, Service, Operations, Finance, Sales) by identifying case trends, recurring issues, and risk indicators, with a focus on consumer-related exposure.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with state and federal consumer protection laws, warranty obligations, and vehicle repurchase requirements, escalating issues as needed.
- Prepare internal summaries, reports, and analyses related to claims volume, litigation trends, costs, and outcomes for legal and business stakeholders.
- Support the review and drafting of settlement agreements, customer communications, internal guidelines, and playbooks related to Lemon Law, buy-back, and other dispute matters.
- Collaborate with North America and Global legal teams on consumer-related disputes, regulatory inquiries, recalls, or emerging litigation risks, as assigned.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal operations, including process efficiency, documentation practices, and matter-management workflows.
- Perform other legal duties as reasonably assigned, consistent with the scope of the role, level of experience, and evolving business needs.
- 1+ year of legal experience supporting litigation or dispute matters, with exposure to Lemon Law claims, consumer warranty disputes, vehicle repurchase (buy-back) matters, or similar consumer-related litigation.
- Experience assisting with or supporting multiple litigation matters, including case intake, document review, coordination with outside counsel, and matter tracking; prior automotive or mobility industry exposure is a plus.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar, or eligibility to practice under applicable California in-house counsel rules (admission in other U.S. jurisdictions a plus).
- Working knowledge of California Lemon Law, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and applicable consumer protection frameworks, with the ability to research and apply legal requirements under guidance.
- Experience working in a fast-paced or evolving business environment, including startups or high-growth organizations, preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize legal issues clearly for internal stakeholders.
- Sound judgment and professionalism, with the ability to manage assigned matters independently while escalating issues appropriately.
