Overview
The Department of Water and Power Division acts as General Counsel to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP), its officers and employees, and its Board of Commissioners. Division attorneys are responsible for legal representation, counsel and advice, and litigation related to DWP operations. The Civil Litigation (Tort) Section represents DWP in civil liability claims and litigation. The practice is active, interesting, and includes a large variety of cases, including personal injury, inverse condemnation, class actions, and wildfire litigation.
Responsibilities- Representing the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) in workers’ compensation cases filed by DWP employees.
- Appearing before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.
- Working with a high-volume case load, familiarity with virtual court appearance procedures, occasionally traveling throughout Southern California for in-court appearances, as well as performing other duties as assigned.
- Must be licensed to practice law in all courts in the State of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California;
- Must have excellent legal skills and the ability to become familiar with medical terms, medical report analysis, and Appeals Board hearing and disability rating procedures; experience supervising attorneys and support staff;
- Familiarity with the WCAB EAMS electronic filing system.
- Familiarity with the IVOS case management system.
Candidates must provide two writing samples they personally authored in the last two years.

ProbationAppointment to this exempt position (non Civil-Service) will be subject to a two-year probationary period as required by Section 1050 of the City Charter. Successfully completing this probationary period will result in tenure with the office.

Placement in this position will be as a lateral transfer with the selected candidate assuming the position in their current classification.
