About the RoleThe Research Services Lead is an integral part of Latham’s Technology & Information Services team. This role will conduct and lead a wide range of legal and non‑legal research and analysis for attorneys and business services staff using a variety of research tools, and facilitate skills development while coaching junior members of the Research Services team. The position is located in our San Francisco, Silicon Valley, or Los Angeles office in Century City and may be eligible for a flexible schedule that allows hybrid and in‑office presence.
Responsibilities- Conduct complex legal and non‑legal research, manage large projects, and synthesize results for relevancy and responsiveness to research requests.
- Monitor business, industry, and legal news sources for developments concerning clients, industries, and practice areas; use aggregator platforms to assemble relevant results for distribution to attorneys and business services staff.
- Lead department training and awareness activities.
- Share knowledge and experience with colleagues, facilitate research staff professional growth, and lead monthly departmental calls.
- Promote effective work practices, act as a team member, and show respect for co‑workers.
- Protect and maintain any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information retained by Latham & Watkins.
- Expert knowledge of legal and non‑legal research, with experience using platforms such as Westlaw, Lexis, Capital
IQ, and Pitchbook. - Ability to lead effective department training for attorneys, colleagues, and business services staff.
- Superior communication skills and teamwork, strong time‑management, prioritization, and capacity to handle multiple deadlines.
- Honors: bachelor’s degree or equivalent; an advanced degree (master’s or J.D.) preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience; minimum cumulative seven (7) years of experience.
