We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Litigation Paralegal to support various litigation practice areas. This role requires a proactive, consultative and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can operate with a high degree of independence. The ideal candidate will anticipate attorney needs and manage all aspects of the litigation process – from case inception through trial and post-trial proceedings, including appeals.
This position will be hybrid (onsite 2+ days per week) in our Los Angeles office and reports to the Senior Practice Support Services Director.
The hourly range for the position of Senior Paralegal at Nossaman is approximately $51.28 to $64.10 an hour. The successful candidate’s annual compensation for this position is reasonably expected to be set between $100,000 and $125,000 per year, plus overtime, discretionary bonus, profit sharing, 401K and other benefits. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities- Discovery & Case Support:
- Support all phases of litigation matters, including complaint, discovery, trial and appeal, ensuring deadlines are met and processes run smoothly
- Oversee the preparation of California Rules of Court compliant records of proceeding in support of state writ proceedings, including California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and California Public Records Act (CPRA) matters from start to finish, ensuring client and attorney needs are anticipated, deadlines are met, all discovery is tracked and processes run smoothly
- Draft, review and manage discovery requests and responses; prepare privilege logs; and organize and analyze documents for production to third parties
- Leverage document review tools, including Relativity and case management software for document review and organization
- Support the preparation and filing of pleadings, motions and other documents in state and federal courts, including extensive exhibit preparation
- Prepare attorneys for upcoming depositions, including identifying key documents and prospective exhibits
- Assist with post-trial motions and appellate filings
- Communicate effectively with client technical and information technology support team and vendors to support case strategy
- Provide recommendations to case teams for software and technology appropriate to each specific case
- Collaborate and communicate with case teams and department management on deadlines, project challenges and overall project status
- Trial Support:
- Prepare trial binders, appendices, exhibits, witness files and coordinate logistics for hearings and trials
- Attend and support trials and hearings
- Present electronically at trial and hearings using OnCue, PowerPoint and/or other tools
- Additional responsibilities:
- Delegate work to junior paralegals and other Firm resources as appropriate
- Provide guidance to paralegals and/or other team members, ensuring training and professional development in collaboration with attorneys and Firm leadership
- Identify time saving and cost-saving changes to existing workflows
- Participate in Firm and attorney team meetings
- Document project details in the applicable tracking systems
- Accurately and thoroughly track all time in appropriate time-tracking systems and create accurate descriptions of the work performed for client bills
- Maintain annual billable requirements
- Complete special projects as needed
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, is required
- Paralegal certificate required
- 7+ years of relevant experience as a litigation paralegal
- Familiarity with CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) and CPRA (California Public Records Act) matters is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and coordinate multiple projects
- Exceptional grammar, spelling and proofreading skills are a must
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Superior communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with clients, attorneys and court personnel at all levels
