Job Overview:
The Associate Corporate Counsel - Compliance at CJ America, Inc. will be responsible for the overarching corporate and regulatory compliance, business ethics, privacy and information security, and governance initiatives for both our U.S. headquarters and certain U.S. affiliates. The Associate Corporate Counsel - Compliance will ensure related business operations and procedures comply with applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
Specifically, the individual will perform a range of duties including evaluating all current and new applicable laws and regulations, reviewing company policies and procedures, drafting/revising corporate policies, and leading training programs for internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, with in-depth knowledge of the latest standards and regulations within the food and consumer products, logistics and/or entertainment industries.
This position will report directly to and work closely with the Director of Compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee business operations relating to corporate governance and compliance, privacy and information security, and industry-specific regulatory compliance, in order to develop company policies, standards, and procedures, under the direction of senior management
- Independently manage several assigned compliance projects to achieve all such goals in a timely manner
- Build partnerships with business and functional stakeholders to ensure alignment between compliance and business strategies
- Regularly provide legal reviews, analyses, and opinions pertaining to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Design and monitor a compliance framework, and a corrective action plan to remediate compliance violations
- Monitor performance of the compliance program, third-party contractual provisions and compliance risks, and other related activities on a continuing basis, take appropriate steps for continuous improvement
- Perform periodic assessments of company procedures and processes, and create and coordinate proper reporting channels for compliance issues
- Develop and lead employee training sessions on compliance topics/issues
- Collaborate and work closely with the in-house legal team
- Coordinate with different department managers to review all departmental compliance policies and procedures
- Coordinate with federal, state, and local regulators, as necessary
- Research, interpret, and catalog applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards as assigned
- Act as a key contact for product recall/withdrawal plans, as warranted
- Engage in other special projects, which may include weekend work, and manage other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in CA preferred, or a related degree in Legal Studies, Regulatory Affairs, Privacy/Information Security or another relevant field
- 3 - 5 years' corporate compliance, ethics, privacy, and/or governance experience as a Compliance Officer or a similar position
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards within the consumer products, logistics and/or entertainment industries
- Strong understanding of requirements for entity management, corporate governance and corporate records
- Demonstrate ability to think strategically and present arguments to attorneys and clients to help shape decisions made by those individuals
- Communication and presentation skills, and an ability to influence and make complicated subjects clear and presentable
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Detailed-oriented with a high level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, with the ability to handle ambiguity, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- CCEP, CIPP and/or CISSP certifications preferred
- English/Korean bilingual preferred
