Department Summary

The UCLA Immigrant Family Legal Clinic (“Imm Fam”) is a unique partnership between the UCLA School of Law and the Los Angeles Unified School District. Located on the campus of the Robert

F. Kennedy Community Schools in Koreatown/Pico Union, the clinic serves immigrant students at the six public schools on the campus, as well as their family members.

Imm Fam provides individual representation in cases involving humanitarian visas, asylum, and removal defense. It also offers legal consultations on a wider range of legal topics, including workers’ rights, housing, public benefits, and criminal justice. Imm Fam also organizes programming and enrichment opportunities related to social justice and legal rights for teachers, students, and families in the RFK community.

The law school recently launched the Housing Justice Clinic (“HJC”) to address the housing crisis in greater Los Angeles and to train students to become skilled litigators and public interest attorneys. The HJC will begin taking students in spring 2026 and will be based on a community‑lawyering model. The clinic works closely with tenant unions and community organizations to protect vulnerable individuals and communities from displacement.

The clinic’s clients will predominantly be low income, people of color, recent immigrants, and individuals who speak languages other than English. The clinic will develop a partnership with one or more LAUSD schools in downtown LA.

F. Kennedy Community Schools, 701 S. Catalina St., Los Angeles, CA, and at the Trust Building, 433 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA, or another location TBD in Downtown Los Angeles.

The Client Coordinator provides high‑level legal and administrative support to faculty directors, staff attorneys, students, and clients of both clinics. The role is responsible for client intake, case management, program administration, communications, outreach, and ensuring smooth operations and effective service delivery across both clinics.
